We are getting ready to have the same setup so this caught my eye.

Not sure I understand though.

The published db was 2000 compat mode. 2000 doesn't use NVarCharMax...why would it raise an error that the target server(the subscriber I am guessing where the version doesn't matter but lets assume 2005=>) uses NVarCharMax?
