PASS SQLRally Pre-con Voting Is Open

SQLRally LogoI'm happy to announce that voting for the 2011 PASS SQLRally Pre-con sessions is now open! There are four tracks: BI; DBA; Dev; and Miscellaneous and the PASS SQLRally program team has narrowed down the field to 3 session choices per track. You can review the choices here:

After you've looked over the abstracts you can go HERE to cast your vote for which ones you'd be willing to pay up to $199 to attend. Voting is open until 8 AM PST November 2, 2011. The winning sessions will be announced at the 2010 PASS Summit in two weeks.

Thanks again to everyone who submitted an abstract and good luck!

Following the process that we published in the application, the abstract review team is looking at all of the submissions this week. The review team consists of:

It is our goal to complete the initial review process this week so that we can open up the community voting next week. We had a brief mention about this in today's PASS Connector and, following our published process, we'll also announce when voting opens via Twitter and the PASS Blog.

Thanks again to everyone who took the time to submit an abstract. This is shaping up to be a fantastic event!

Reminder: SQLRally Call For Precon Speakers Open Through Oct. 15

We opened the call for precon speakers for the inaugural SQLRally (May 11-13, 2011) a few weeks ago and I wanted to remind everyone that we're taking abstracts through midnight PST, Oct. 15, 2010. The application is available here (free registration required) and I've copied the list of prerequisite qualifications below. Note that Summit pre\postcon speakers are ineligible to do a precon at the SQLRally so there's less competition standing in your way if you've never done a precon but think you're ready to take the next step. If you meet the prereqs but still aren't sure I encourage you to take the time to put something together. Worst case it's a learning experience for you; best case you get accepted, earn up to $2,000, and have the chance to make a name for yourself. Who knows, you might be the next Paul Randal in waiting!

Our first goal is to select a set of seminars that will be interesting to a broad set of conference attendees that will be perceived as worthy of the additional expense. The second goal is to grow the next generation of seminar speakers for PASS Summit (Note: being selected for a PASS SQLRally seminar does not imply or guarantee acceptance as a seminar speaker at PASS Summit).

Presenters must meet the following requirements to be considered:

  • Have not been selected to present a pre/post seminar at PASS Summit 2010
  • Not a current member of the PASS Board of Directors or the planning team for PASS SQLRally
  • Be available to present the seminar on May 11, 2011
  • Be available to attend the entire conference May 12-13, 2011 and deliver an additional one hour presentation (subject to session acceptance)
  • Meet at least one of the following:
    • Be a current SQL Server MVP
    • Have been selected as a primary or alternate speaker at the 2009 or 2010 PASS Summit or similar sized event
    • Have previously taught a full day course on SQL Server
  • Submit a complete application prior to the deadline: midnight on October 15, 2010 (PST)
  • Agree to the confidentiality provisions of the application

SQLSaturday #49 (Orlando) Is Right Around The Corner - Have You Registered?

sqlsat49_webAs I write this SQLSaturday #49 in Orlando is right around the corner - October 16, to be exact. My friends Jack Corbett (Blog | Twitter) and Andy Warren (Blog | Twitter) have been working hard to make this the best SQLSaturday we've ever had in Orlando. How so?

I'm on the schedule as well and will be presenting a preview of my 2010 PASS Summit Spotlight Session on transactional replication.

Louis's design precon is $99 and Saturday is FREE with an optional $10 charge for boxed lunch (but you can bring your own lunch if you'd like). Seats are still open but filling up fast so don't wait - register today and I hope to see you there!
